WHY – Why do you want to be involved in sport? and specifically Rowing?
“In short, sport is a passionately human undertaking; we care about sport and we care about being good at it”.
“Once you choose to be involved in a competitive sport you are stating your desire to set and achieve goals, to develop new skills and competencies, to test your physical and mental limits, and to pursue some level of excellence. For most sportspeople this is a voluntary decision, one that is motivated not by extrinsic reasons such as money or rewards, but by intrinsic reasons such as facing a challenge, feeling competent, having fun, and feeling good about yourself. However, like all areas of human endeavour, sport has the potential for negative as well as positive experiences”. (Sports Motivation by Ken Hodge).
I believe this is what Queen Margaret College Rowing is about and the values we aim to instill in our girls as they travel through their novice year on to their second, third and forth year rowing for QMC. Values that take them beyond the years at QMC and stand them in good stead to set new goals and aims, and confront their future challenges with a positive attitude of , “I can do, this is achievable”
